Patricia Shepard, 50, Killed in Hammond Chevron Shooting on Highway 190, Louisiana: Innocent Bystander Fatally Struck in 70–80-Round Ambush as Police Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. Pursues Suspects
Patricia Shepard Death Obituary
Patricia Shepard, a 50-year-old Louisiana resident, was killed in the early hours of June 4, 2026, after being caught in a violent shooting at a Chevron gas station along U.S. Highway 190 in Hammond. Authorities confirmed that Shepard died at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds when armed suspects opened fire on a parked vehicle.
According to the Hammond Police Department, the incident occurred around 1:15 a.m. when two suspects in a white sedan pulled alongside a gray vehicle at the gas station. Investigators say the gunmen exited their car and discharged an estimated 70 to 80 rounds into the target vehicle, striking Shepard, who was seated inside and had no known connection to the attackers’ intended target.
Police believe the shooting was a case of mistaken identity, with Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. stating that the attackers likely intended to hit someone else who had been associated with the vehicle earlier in the night. Officials emphasized that Shepard was an innocent passenger who had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Security footage reportedly captured the suspects fleeing westbound on Highway 190 toward Interstate 55 immediately after the attack. Investigators also confirmed the suspects’ vehicle had been stolen in a prior carjacking in Mississippi, and that multiple individuals—believed to be two or three—are currently being pursued in connection with the shooting.
Chief Bergeron has vowed that detectives will continue working leads until the suspects are identified and arrested. Authorities are urging members of the public with any information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
The deadly ambush has deeply shaken the Hammond community, prompting renewed concern over rising gun violence and the increasing frequency of mass-shooting-style incidents affecting bystanders in public spaces.
